Description
You are bidding on a high-quality reproduction of theThematic Music Cue
Sheet
for the 1927 silent feature film
TARZAN AND THE GOLDEN LION
. Back during the silent film era, cue sheets like this one would be sent out to movie theaters in advance of a film so that the musicians could assemble a suitable musical accompaniment.
In addition to identifying the on-screen cues where the music was supposed to change,
Thematic Cue Sheets
also provided the title, publisher and the first few measures of an appropriate piece of music to use for each cue.
(If a theater didn’t have a particular piece of music in its library, the orchestra leader or music librarian would substitute something similar.)
Using the few measures of music provided for each cue, a talented theater organist could also improvise an entire score just from the cue sheet!
Because Tarzan’s creator Edgar Rice Burroughs was personally involved in the production of
TARZAN AND THE
GOLDEN LION
, this particular cue sheet is eagerly sought after by serious collectors of Tarzan memorabilia as well as silent film music scholars, theater organists, authors, museums, etc.
4
pages, measuring 8-1/2 inches by 11 inches.
Very few
original
copies of this particular cue sheet are still in existence and these are jealously locked away in private collections. (When an original copy turned up on
eBay
a year or so ago,
it sold for over 0
!) This high-quality reproduction comes from a non-smoking household and was printed on paper similar in appearance to the original. Matted and framed, it would make a great item to display in an office, music library or screening room.
(If you’ve been looking for a unique gift for a musician, Tarzan fan, or a silent movie buff, this is it!)
